Natural cat litter has four jobs that are important for a healthy litter environment not only for your 4-legged friend, but for you too.
The first is to absorb your loved one’s urine. The second is to cover your kitty’s feces. The third is to reduce or eliminate the growth of odor-causing bacteria and the fourth is to be eco-friendly.
We want the best cat litter because we believe in living a healthy, holistic, organic lifestyle, and we want the same for our cats.
They give us so much and as humans we want to return a gift to them…
By reducing toxic chemicals and food we feel that this is the best way to insure a happy and healthy life…cat litter included!
According to our veterinarian, litter is a huge concern for cats and cat owners when it comes to environmental and health issues.
Here Is Why!
Clay based and clumping cat litters have an ingredient called bentonite clay.
This is a non-biodegradable substance that requires poor environmental practices to harvest. To get this material strip mining is necessary which damages our environment.
Bentonite clay also carries a health hazard because of the amount of silica dust that it can produce. Silica is listed as causing cancer!
Here is the nasty part…when cats are grooming themselves they of course ingest bentonite clay that has stuck to their paws. It then builds up in their digestive tract and can create a blockage.
Plus, after surgery veterinarians often recommend not using clay litters because it can cause infection.
Natural cat litter is definitely a good choice. Being biodegradable is one advantage but not having toxic health issues is another.
Healthy pet cat litter is made from pine, paper, wheat or corn. These all natural pet supplies are available in clumping and non-clumping formulas.
They are also good for cats and humans with allergies to dust as they have no bentonite clay. And many are flushable.
The litter that our cat expert loves is Feline Pine.
This is truly a 100% natural, biodegradable product. It is made from pine that has been heated and pressurized to remove phenol and any other harmful wood oils.
The pine lumber is ground into sawdust and then made into pine pellets. Pellet absorb ton of moisture and then break down into sawdust again. and the pellets are small so they can’t create digestive issues. There are absolutely no toxic contents in this product.
Our cat expert says that is silica and dust free!
So…say not to clay products and use natural litter instead!
By doing so we are respecting the health of our delightful family members! They rely on us so let’s do the best we can for them!
