Did you know that homemade horse treat recipes that are easy, fun and nutritious are one of our favorite topics!
Horses and ponies absolutely love munching on treats and as you might know buying commercial horse treats can get expensive.
Plus… unless they've been certified as organic or all-natural, commercial horse treats might include some artificial ingredients which could potentially harm your horse's health.
Sure, you could buy healthy, organic, all-natural horse treats, but they're even more expensive than the ordinary variety.
A simple way to feed healthy horse treats are to just give apples or carrots to your horse. After all, they're easy, healthy and natural, and just about every equine loves them.
Even better… why not give your four-legged friend a healthy homemade horse treat that has additional flavor and even more nutritional value?
It's easy… to make your own horse treats once you find some recipes you like and gather up the ingredients you'll need (you'll probably already have a lot of them).
By making your own organic pet treats, you'll know exactly what's in them and you'll know they're healthy. And your horse will be whinnying for more as soon as he or she finishes the first tasty treat!
Here are a couple of horse treat recipes which are not only healthy and delicious, but cheap and easy to make. Your horse will love them because they are healthy organic pet treats made by you!
The first recipe uses carrots and apples, which are classic horse treats, to create some delicious, healthy cakes…
Carrot and Apple Healthy Horse Cakes
You'll need these ingredients (if you can, use organic ingredients)
While your oven is preheating to 300 degrees Fahrenheit, combine all the ingredients in a mixing bowl.
Place the mixture on a cookie sheet and flatten it into a large cake, then bake for 40 minutes or until the cake is a nice golden brown. Refrigerate for four hours before cutting into horse-size pieces, then watch your horse enjoy! Keep the uneaten cakes fresh in the refrigerator inside an air-tight container.
Our second healthy homemade horse treat recipe also uses apples, although in a different way
Chewy Oat and Apple Squares
Ingredients (remember, organic when possible)
Grease a 9" x 9" square cake pan while your oven is preheating to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine all the ingredients and then pour the batter into the cake pan. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes. When it's done, the batter will be firm and start shrinking away from the sides of the cake pan. Cut into squares while still warm, then refrigerate inside a zip-lock bag or airtight container. Your horse will love these chewy, wholesome squares.
Your horse's health is just as important as the health of any other living being. You can help them live a long, healthy and happy life by giving them wholesome, nutritious feed and delicious, all-natural, holistic homemade horse treats.
Plus… you'll get a big kick out of watching your horse munch on the treats you made for them yourself. Just remember not to give them to your horse too often, and don't feed your horse too many treats at the same time.
